Memorial Day Weekend

Memorial Day weekend, it came and it went.

I had a good time. It was nice to see familiar faces and to meet new people. It was stressful at times and joyful at times.

The highlight of the weekend was seeing Mr. Van Riley. The people that actually read this blog (if anyone reads it) probably don't know my friend Van.

At first sight Van is truly only one thing. A ski bum. Then you get to know this Massachusetts native who moved out west to ski our fluffy goodness. He is a kindhearted, goofball of a kid. If Van Riley can do one thing, it's make you laugh. We haven't always liked each other, but we've always had a good time.

So when I told Van I was moving to Mass, to live on Nantucket for the summer... He told me I would have a good time. And that maybe I would see him out there. A few months later he revealed to me that he was moving back to Mass to get a job, go back to school, and to just get his shit together. So I would INDEED see him this summer.

His family just sailed in their 23rd consecutive Figawi Sailboat Race, from Cape Cod to Nantucket. And they placed THIRD! As I was walking aimlessly to the Straight Wharf to get beverages of sorts... Guess who I ran into on the sidewalk. Looking haggard, Van Riley. He confessed that he was hungover, had puked from being seasick during the race, and was just plain tired... Had a headache and so forth. So I spent the afternoon with Van and his fam on their boat. Leaving them to tend to other business.

On Sunday morning I was awoken by Van at 9:30am. Which honestly I thought was early considering how much I had had to drink. Van invited me to the annual joke show at the Figawi tent. I had heard about the joke show. But hearing about it has nothing on actually SEEING one! If you are on Nantucket, during Memorial Day Weekend. Go to the Joke Show on the Sunday of Figawi. It is full of the cutest old men and women... telling the DIRTIEST jokes I have EVER heard. I loved EVERY MINUTE of it.

Then I went to work for the next 8 hours. Got off work, changed, and headed to the Figawi tent. Thanks to a friend for a free all access bracelet! I was able to hang out with Van and his family and dance dance dance.
